International Parent Child Abduction
Israel and the United States have been treaty partners under the 1980 Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction (Hague Abduction Convention) since December 1, 1990.
The Department of State is committed to ensuring fair and humane treatment for U.S. citizens imprisoned overseas. We stand ready to assist incarcerated citizens and their families within the limits of our authority in accordance with international law, domestic and foreign law.
The American Citizen Services Units at the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem and the Branch Office in Tel Aviv can assist in the event of the death of a U.S. citizen in Israel. They can act as liaison in arranging the disposition of remains and help with forwarding personal effects.
Being the victim of a crime in a foreign country can be a devastating and traumatic experience. While no one can undo the emotional trauma, physical injury, or financial loss you may have experienced, the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem and the Branch Office in Tel Aviv are ready to help.
Emergency Financial Assistance
U.S. consular officers can assist U.S. citizens abroad who are temporarily destitute abroad because of an unanticipated emergency. Consular officers can help destitute U.S. citizens abroad contact family, a bank, or an employer to arrange for transfer of funds. In some cases, these funds can be wired through the Department of State.
