OPA Launches Joint Doctorate Degree with Al-Quds Open University and Georgia State University
September 20, 2023. Al-Quds Open University and Georgia State University, with support from the United States Office of Palestinian Affairs, has launched a joint academic research and doctorate program in Computer Science. The program will be accredited by both an American accrediting agency and the Palestinian Ministry of Higher
Education. The partnership is part of the United States Office of Palestinian Affairs’ commitment to strengthening Palestinian higher education.
The partnership reflects Al-Quds Open University and Georgia State University’s commitment to higher education, promoting excellence in science and technology,

building a skilled Palestinian workforce, and increasing economic opportunities for Palestinians.
Public Affairs Counselor Carissa Gonzalez says, “Today’s celebration reflects the fruits of a three-year journey culminating in a groundbreaking partnership that will generate valuable new academic research and new cohorts of talented Palestinian graduates in a key field that will be central to the long-term prosperity of Palestinian society.”
The United States Office of Palestinian Affairs sponsors approximately 200 Palestinian students, academics, and professionals to travel to the United States annually on exchange programs. The United States remains the top destination for international students, with over 948,000 international students during the 2021/2022 academic year.
